Thompson Bolsters Lions

Jonathon Thompson has been announced as a member of the London Lions to complete the 2017-18 season.

The 64guard has playing experience in Hungary and Argentina where he played after graduating from Rider University in 2013

At Rider he was a team mate of Lions guard Justin Robinson and he ended his last season averaging 13 points 4 rebounds and 3 assists whilst also averaging 40% from the three-point line, leading the college in points, assists and steals. A solid season followed in Hungary for Sopron KC where he averaged 10 points a game in 26 minutes of action.

Thompson suffered a knee injury in late 2014 which needed to be re-habilitated and now is fully fit and ready to go.

“I can’t wait to get playing with the Lions, I’ve heard so much about the guys from Justin and to be back on the same team as him is going to be fun, I’m grateful for this opportunity and I just can’t wait”, said Thompson, Lions Chief Executive and Head Coach, Vince Macaulay was also pleased to get Thompson on board, “To say we’ve been shorthanded would be an understatement, these three and a half week’s off has given us time to get fully fit after our injuries.  To add a player of Jonathon’s quality is a bonus, I know he’s here because Justin has told him what we’re up to, and having another aggressive scorer on the floor and an athlete, will help us push on in the coming games.”

Unfortunately, Lions will wave farewell to Momcilo Latinovic whose hip injury has not improved after over two months, Latinovic has decided to return home to recuperate with the possibility of a further operation in the summer. “Cilo will be welcome back here once he’s made a full recovery” continued Macaulay, he has been devastated by the injury and so wanted to help the team but he’s right to take this course and hopefully he will make a speedy recover.”

Fans will see Thompson make his Lions’ debut on Tuesday when the Lions host the Bristol Flyers at the Copper Box, Tip off 7.30pm, tickets are available HERE
