Lions Hold 13 Point Advantage

 BBL Cup Semi-Final, First Leg

Cheshire Phoenix 74-87 London Lions (21-22, 43-39, 59-56)

London Lions took a step towards reaching the BBL Cup Final after recording a 13-point win on the road against Cheshire Phoenix.

The visitors produced a strong final quarter to earn a double-digit advantage to take back to the capital for next Sunday's second leg. The Lions started well as did the home side and there was just a point in it after the first quarter.

The Lions had already used Lamar Roberts inside against CJ Gettys and a 3 point 4 rebound performance was superb from the youngster. However dragging Gettys in and out of pick and rolls limited his effectiveness, but great shooting from Robert Sandoval meant the Lions had a three point deficit at the end of the third quarter.

Turning point - Cheshire lead didn’t last long, on came Andre Lockhart who ignited his team defensively and all of a sudden it rained threes from the capital side. A 13-1 burst as Lions netted five triples in the final quarter to build a commanding advantage.

Key stat - The Lions shot 40% from 3-point range as they drained 15 in the contest compared to Cheshire's 6-of-28 with the home side also seeing all of their points scored by their starters.

Game hero(es) - Momcilo Latinovic led the way with 18 points in the win, whils Justin Robinson was close behind on 17 made with just 7 shots along with seven assists and Jack Isenbarger coming up with some big-time threes in the second half to finish with 12 points.

The Lions now travel to League Champions, Leicester Riders on Friday in the League and come home on Sunday the 10th to try and finish the job against the Phoenix and claim the first place at the BBL Cup Final in January.
