Lions Off To Winning Start

The London Lions got preparations off to a winning start under Coach Karol with a 78-97 victory over Czarni Slupsk in Poland.

GB International Justin Robinson responded to a 7-0 start for the home side with 5 unanswered points before Paul Guede joined in hitting a three of his own and driving for a score. By the end of the first quarter both teams were tied at 20-20.

Moritz Lanegger opened his account at the star of the second quarter before sharp shooter Momcilo Latinovic lit up the gym with explosive three point shooting on his way to 6/7 from behind the arc. Trialist Lamar Roberts who had battled over the last year to get himself into playing shape was thrown in early by Karol to nullify the threat of the 6’11” Stephen Hurt, and he duly blocked him then went ½ from the free throw line. By half time the Lions were cruising against a team that were Playoff semi-finalist in the PLK League last season, 34-48. A 2-17 run in the second had done the damage.

The second half saw more of the same and despite Lanegger and Guede fouling out, it was young Hackney graduates Jonathan James and Jonathan Lashley who combined for the final score of the game as the Lions took the win, 78-97.

The Capital side are back to training in the morning before facing Asseco Gdynia on Tuesday.
